Bronze case is magnificent; the crown is wide, ratchet design, easy to adjust; luminous figures, large size; El Primero star-speed high-frequency movement: the new Zenith ‘Pilot’ is proud and dazzling The pedigree of many well-known aviation watches.
In 2017, the well-known Pilot’s Watch collection was uniquely designed to showcase a pioneering spirit in the form of a chronograph. With a sandblasted black dial and khaki green oily suede leather strap, the watch is adventurous and shows a new retro look. Watchmaker Zenith, like the pioneers of aviation, is unremitting and goes along the way, so far.
The new Pilot Extra Special Chronograph is noble and retro, and deeply influenced by the fearless spirit of high-altitude flying heroes. In the early days of the aviation industry, the in-flight instrument was developed by Zenith, and is known for its precision, sturdiness and excellent readability. Primero’s star-speed ‘engine’ and black dial with green luminous Arabic numerals add vitality to the iconic pilot’s watch.
The large 45 mm case is made of bronze, with an oversized luminous display design to ensure unparalleled readability. It is equipped with a large size spiral crown and ratchet buttons for easy adjustment while wearing gloves. Bronze, a highly diamagnetic alloy, and its natural luster give the watch a unique retro look.
The new sandblasted black dial is topped with an arched sapphire crystal and carries a unique large Arabic numeral-white (divergent green) coated with Super-LumiNova® SLN C1. The luminous faceted hands swept through the unique dial, while at the same time it is more distinctive due to the two chronograph dials and the railway hour-minute track. The inscriptions ‘Montre d’ Aéronef’ and ‘Pilot’ remind everyone that in the early days of the military and civil aviation industries, manufacturers were one of the earliest manufacturers of altimeters and cockpit watches.
Inside its 100-meter water-resistant case, it houses the legendary ‘engine’: the El Primero 4701 calibre. This high-frequency column-wheel chronograph movement is a descendant of the world’s most accurate mass-produced chronograph developed and launched by Zenith in 1969. The frequency of the movement is 5 Hz, which can display tenths of a second, driving the central hour and minute hands, small seconds and chronograph functions, while ensuring a 50-hour power reserve.
A pure titanium caseback pays tribute to the originator of aviation, engraved with the logo of the aircraft and flight instruments that Louis Blériot drove through the English Channel when wearing the Zenith watch in 1909, with a decorative pattern inspired by the body of the legendary French pilot. This Pilot Extra Special watch is specially designed to explore distant horizons. It has a khaki green oily suede leather strap with beige stitching, a protective rubber lining and a titanium pin buckle fastening.
