Rolex Kingsail Sailing Race Ended Perfectly

Known as Asia’s highest level blue ocean offshore regatta-The 27th ‘Rolex China Sea Race’ was held on April 16, 2014 in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong. Set sail and ended successfully in Subic Bay, Philippines. Rolex has been sponsoring this world-class offshore race since 2008.

 After 57 hours, 31 minutes and 18 seconds, 87-year-old Syd Fischer led his 90-foot sailing ship ‘Ragamuffin 90’ to win the ‘line championship’. He has participated in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 45 times and was also the winner of the Rolex Fastnet Yacht Race in 1971. The 74-year-old NeilPryde led the 52-foot ‘HiFi’ to win the ‘IRC Championship’ for the second time in two days, 21 hours, 47 minutes, and defeated TP52 ‘Lucky’ of Bryon Ehrhart by two minutes.

 Hi Fi owner and captain Neil Pryde is a Hong Kong resident. He has participated in the “Rolex China Sea Regatta” for the first time in 1968 and has won two championships in 1988 and 2010. This victory symbolizes one of the most brilliant achievements of his sailing career. Like Syd Fischer, his love of sailing has never stopped. Neil Pryde said after the game, ‘We have won a lot of awards and this is the most memorable victory. The past few years have not been sailing because of health problems, so today’s results are very important to me. Prove that we can still make a difference. Sailing races have been a part of my life for more than sixty years. I’ve always been racing, and that’s what I always do.

 Syd Fischer’s Ragamuffin 90 was at 564 nautical miles at the beginning of the race and successfully maintained a boat speed of 9 to 1 knot until the last lap, but unfortunately encountered an obstacle. The team could not start for an hour and could only stare at the finish line. Fischer responded to the forecast of the breeze at the dock. ‘Fortunately, we have a good ship, and it will help us even better after modification.’ Captain David Witt added: ‘The 87-year-old Fischer can continue to improve. It’s not easy. Some young people as young as two-year-old were encouraged by him. ‘Although he was delayed before the finish line, he was satisfied with the completion time, pointing out that’ no one would want to enter Subi Bay in the early morning. ‘ The 27th ‘Rolex China Sea Regatta’ gathered in Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, the United States, Australia and other countries. A total of 34 yachts participated in the race. The age ranged from 17 to 87.
